When Was the Last Time You Had Your Chimney Cleaned?

The National Fire Protection Association recommends that chimneys, fireplaces, and vents should be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances. In addition, these inspections will allow you knowledge on whether burning a fire in your fireplace is safe or if a cleaning, maintenance, and/or repairs should be performed.

Why Do I Need My Fireplace Cleaned?

Cleaning your chimney is about the safety of your home and will prevent a chimney fire. The build up creosote needs to be removed and is dependent on how often you are burning a wood burning fire, along with the type of wood that has been burned inside your fireplace. The purpose of a chimney sweep is to remove soot, blockages and built-up creosote from your chimney liner, firebox, smoke chamber and damper. A cleaning will help create a safer operation of your system during the heating system.

Does My Gas Fireplace Need Cleaned?

Many new homes are equipped with gas fireplaces. According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), some of the new gas fireplaces still require an annual chimney cleaning.
